2025 6   Glass windows

This month I present more Richter accessories. These are the glass windows. The Richter empire included metalworking and glass processing. Metal played an important role in the jukebox division, and glassworking in the in-house pharmaceutical production division.
How practical it was to have everything at hand for manufacturing glass windows that could be put in a metal frame. True, their dimensional accuracy leaves a lot to be desired. They are very beautiful and spectacular, but they can only be used in construction after a great deal of manual adjustment. They are generally larger than the window openings formed by Romanesque-style arches, and the metal frame needs a lot of bending to fit into the window opening without causing a misalignment.

The effect on the overall appearance of the building is illustrated by the example of the Swedish fortress tower on page 12 of set NF 8’s building booklet. In the first pictures, the window recesses of the building are empty.

In the second pair of pictures, the tower is adorned by the windows pressed into their places. The result speaks for itself.

As an example of the problem of misallignment, I show a round window for an opening formed by two arches 108 or two arches 110. The picture clearly shows how the two arches cannot lie one on top of the other because of the too large diameter of the metal frame enclosing the glass.

These innovations were advertised as a novelty from the second issue of the Anker newspaper in 1919.
